ProtoXtype is a brand that was born from the encounter between sustainability, ethics and performance. We therefore choose our materials not only on the basis of their environmental impact, but also on their quality and on the characteristics that they can offer.
This is why we like to test and verify our fabrics ourselves, to make sure they live up to our expectations and a dynamic and active, but also personal lifestyle.
The choice to use a material such as polypropylene comes from the desire to create clothing that is performing and resistant, suitable for travel, outdoor sports, but also for a walk or a quiet stretching session.
What is polypropylene?
Polypropylene is a fabric that is born as a fiber. It is obtained from petroleum fractions and waste, but it remains a material, albeit synthetic, very easy to recycle.
The fiber obtained from polypropylene, similar to a paste, has numerous properties. Firstly, it cannot be dyed, and this makes the process of creating this fabric less impacting, as it is born and remains in the color of its fiber. Despite being synthetic, polypropylene is much more performing than most other fabrics deriving from plastic, such as polyester. Compared to the latter, polypropylene in fact:
- It is much lighter;
- Absorbs less water;
- It is more breathable;
- Keeps the body temperature constant.
Since it is so much more performing, ProtoXtype’s Oeko-tex certified polypropylene fabric is ideal for all types of sports and outdoor activities. Its main characteristics as a fiber suitable for sportswear are:
- Abrasion-resistant;
- Light;
- Breathable;
- Does not absorb liquids or smells;
- Hypoallergenic;
- Stain resistant;
- Water repellent.
